<p><strong>Bernard Maupoil's 1943 record of the sixteen principal signs of Fa — in English for the first time.</strong></p><p>Maupoil worked among the diviners of Abomey and recorded what they gave him: for each of the sixteen great signs, its messages, its devises, the legends attached to it, and the sacrifices it calls for. His <em>La Géomancie à l'Ancienne Côte des Esclaves</em> has remained one of the most detailed field records of Dahomean Fa ever made, and has stayed locked in French for eighty years.</p><p>This translation opens that record, with an introduction placing the Fon tradition beside its Yoruba source and noting where the two traditions agree, diverge, and illuminate each other.</p><p>Maupoil Fa Library, Volume I.
